ICE SKATING OPPORTUNITIES 2016-17

It is beginning to look like WINTER! However it will be a while before the ice rinks will be up and ready.

Excited skaters will begin to see ice on a local ponds just before Christmas.  It is unfortunate that even though there may be a couple inches of ice on these ponds there won’t be enough on the Park Districts outdoor rinks to support any significant skating activities.

It takes about 5 full days below freezing before the ice is thick enough to support a large group of skaters.  Typically ice safety begins at about 4 inches.  At this point is it generally considered safe enough for a few people to attempt to be on the ice.

The Clarendon Hills Park District keeps these guidelines in mind when considering whether or not they will open the rinks.  We want you to have an enjoyable time skating but our first priority is to assure that the rinks are ready for use.  We will open the rinks as soon as the ice is thick enough for use.

See other rink rules and guidelines posted on this website and at each rink.

PS:  Skating is not allowed on Prospect Park Ponds.

Have a safe and wonderful skating season.

Prospect Park Pavilion will be closed for approximately a week for repairs. Please be aware of your surroundings while near the Pavilion and in the Park. Thank you for your patience while improvements are being made.
